Simon's 'Get-the-Job-Done' Kegety
Sometimes what we need is a bike that just gets the job done - no messing around, no bells and whistles - just unadulterated, pure function. If you were going to build a bike that will take you anywhere and never let you down then the Kegety is the way to go and Simon knew it from the start.
Designed to be a go-anywhere gravel bike, the Kegety was a solid choice and with clearances for up to 700x47c tyres Simon wouldn’t have difficulty getting enough rubber for when the going gets rough. For this build though we specced 650x47b tyres for the quicker handling that a smaller wheel can offer, making this beast that bit more nimble in the dirt.
As utilitarian as the Kegety is, there’s always room for some aesthetic flare, and in this case we settled on this two tone blue finish picked straight from the Paint Haus. Sitting on the front end is a lustrous, shimmering navy metallic, paired on the rear with a flat pastel blue, reminiscent of old sixties Land Rovers. Golden yellow crowns the logo, a welcome splash of contrast.
For Simon he wanted the simplicity of mechanical gears, and the solid performance of a reliable groupset, something that would shift flawlessly and keep ticking over. Having been a big fan of Shimano road groups taking the leap to the GRX gravel components was the sensible choice. As simplicity was key we decided to run a 1 x setup for the build because of it’s easy maintenance and less things to go wrong. It even saves a few grams in the process.
We shoed this sled with unfussy, reliable DT Swiss wheels, shod with rubber from WTB. Simple and effective, certain to stay rubber-side-down.
All in all a pleasure to build. What better way to adventure!
